Showcase 2003

On This page we will be featuring, monthly, one of our llamas
which we think deserves attention for either his/her performance,
their contributions of outstanding cria,
or just wonderful presence.

I have been sort of remiss in keeping this page up to date. But it seems right that we feature this llama as the Showcase llama for all of the Months of OCTOBER, NOVEMBER and DECEMBER. He is special.
In the past, whenever I ever thought of Peruvians, the first one that I thought of was The Commodore.

December '03 SHOWCASE presents:

The Peruvian Commodore, This is what raising Peruvian llamas is all about. Lillian and I always had our sights set on this animal. He is statuesque, he is proud, his carriage is impeccable. At his age he still has the top line and the neck extension that is always sought after. And the fiber and color..

September '03 SHOWCASE presents:

Peruvian Sweet Carmellina, An exceptional female. Her dam Peruvian Carmello is over six feet tall , and Sweet Carmellina is also a big female. She loves to go to the shows. In 2002 placed 3rd in the top FIVE of the Regionals. She is bred to Peruvian Profiteer for an Oct. cria. This should be a grand cria.

August '03 SHOWCASE presents:

Chilean Snows of Kilimanjaro, This young male sired by Chilean Starship, is one Lil and I can never take our eyes off of. Since his birth he has been a real "trip". If you look at the beginning of this page you'll read about his Mom - Flowers and the delayed birth we all went thru awaiting Kilimanjaro.
If you were able to watch him develop as we are, you would have seen this amazingly strong little "bull" develop. At first pure white but now developing a little grayness down the top line. It enhances his color. A first generation full Chilean, and a great potential herd sire.

July '03 SHOWCASE presents:

CHili-Bol Hopscotch Honey, This is one of the sweetest llamas I have ever been around. And at every show we always hear that she has the absolute sweetest face! Hopscotch came to us as a little girl, just weaned and only 5 1/2 months old. This is Lil's baby.
She has wonderful bloodlines - Sired by Bolivian Crown Jewels.
We have shown her several times and she has placed very well, including a Grand Champion Heavy Wool Female. Honey is just past two years old and we are deciding who she will be bred to in the future months. With her wool and disposition we expect something special, almost as special as she is.

June '03 SHOWCASE presents:

Peruvian Caramelo, The "Grand Dam" of our gals here. She is a '91 import from Peru, and had been at several farms before we were fortunate enough to see her and know that she had to be part of our permanent herd. She is the dam of USA #1, a truly impressive male, and then all girls. When Caramelo came here she came with a sweet little girl cria, hiding behind her mom. And that sweetie is Peruvian Sweet Carmellina, a show winner for us. Caramelo rules the girl barn, and everything else for that matter; an impressive over six foot tall lady of vanilla & strawberry colors.

May '03 SHOWCASE presents:

Peruvian Vogue, one of our newest males. Vogue, although somewhat unassuming because he has been sort of quiet, is one of the most impressive males we have had born here. One of Brunate's sons, out of Peruvian Luminience, he is a wonderful fawn color, quite tall for his age and is becoming much more aggressive in all of the male games. I am noticing him more and more each day. As yet we have only taken him out to a show once, to Fort Worth, where he was very nervous and didn't really do well at all. But big things are in the horizon for Peruvian Vogue. Take a look

April '03 SHOWCASE presents:

Chilean Flowers of the Field, a 1996 Chilean Appaloosa import, has been with us for over a year now, arriving in late '01. When she arrived here she was pregnant, and we were expecting something spectacular around April 29th, 2002. She was sort of "over developed" (chubby) and it looked like she had never been shorn.
We immediately put her on a diet, and coupled with having to go up & down our hill, Flowers began to drop a few pounds and also to get herself in shape.
As the months progressed, Lil and I awaited our new cria. However, not all birth records are completely accurate, and so, we finally had our little package delivered on June 23rd. A healthy male, sired by Chilean Starship, that we named Chilean Snows of Kilimanjaro, because of his abundance of white....

While she was on her diet, we also gave Flowers a full shearing, removing over 15 lbs. of matted wool. She looked at us a little surprised at the absence of all of that wool, but with a look of relief as well.

Flowers is quite at home now with us, and has found her spot in the herd of big girls. Near the top of the pecking order. She has also semi adopted our latest cria, Diamond Lil.  Although Diamond Lil knows her mother and is with her for all of the motherly things, Flowers seems to have become her constant companion. They play together, and Flowers acts as her protector when things seem to be threatening. It is a cute relationship, seeing Diamond Lil with her Mom, Chiquita, and her adopted Mom, Flowers all going together wherever in the pasture.

We expect that this Spring or at the latest by Fall we will be rebreeding our beautiful appy lady, and are just deciding who the special Sire will be.
