Feb 21th, 2012 - Tuesday
A busy day
around here yesterday. On my early morning walk to the girl's barn I saw what I
was looking for.
It was barely light outside but in the pasture I could see Peruvian Maiden
Voyage standing over her new cria.
He must have been born just at first light. How exciting - A new Peruvian male
out of Peruvian Expedition.
And the last cria born here at Kent Rock Meadows. This new boy is the end of all
breeding/birthing here at our farm.
In the next few days we will be updating with newer pics of both he and his
Mom...
Both he and his Mom - Peruvian Maiden Voyage are up for sale. Check out our
updated sale page and then call us.

Jan 02, 20112 - Monday HAPPY NEW YEAR 2012 TO ALL!!!!!!
A new year - it's hard to imagine that 2011 is history. It seemed like it was a fleeting moment.
But, here we
go again!!! This morning I walked down front to check on everything and
while cleaning the barn
let Mariposa and her new little girl out into the center aisle.
Then later I
put both of them out into the corral I built for them - baby still had her cria
coat on as the wind was howling.
In fact the wind has been blowing wild all night.
What a change
we went through yesterday - started out with a forecast of 70 degrees - NOT!!
It stayed cloudy and never really got above 60 degrees, just before the wind
picked up and the temperatures started dropping.
Have to get
the last of the water lines wrapped before day's end since we are supposed to be
down around 18 degrees tomorrow night.
And we'll have to bank up the hay inside of the barn since all of the females
will probably be in there as the temps dip.

12/30/2011 - Friday
Here we at the end of a
new year, and every day holds a new and wonderful surprise. This morning, I
walked down to the barn to clean and feed all and
while I was inside cleaning I noticed that the females had not come up to the
door as they usually do- bumping and shoving to get inside & get fed.
Better take a look out front and see where they are. There they all were
grouped around something, and guess what - Mariposa P5 was standing
there
with her new cria right there by her side. Looked like it had been born no more
than 1/2 to 1 hour ago. And already it was pushing it's legs
underneath and trying to stand.
I scooped it up and all
the females followed me into the barn where Lil and I fixed Mariposa's
stall with fresh hay water, and checked the baby out - dried her off
and already she was looking to nurse. A strong healthy full Peruvian female. Yes,
it is a beautiful day.
Here are three quick pictures in her new stall - no more than 1 1/2 hours old.

MOM is Mariposa P5 one of the imports directly from Peru. We were fortunate to bring her to our farm
early this Spring. on grain and great Bermuda grass AND developing this beautiful baby girl whose father is Peruvian Expedition, a son of Peruvian Maximo . |
12/16/2011 - Saturday
Another beautiful day in a
long string of them. Yesterday we went on into Augusta to do some
Christmas shopping and can you believe it -
It was in the mid 70's all day. I'm sure it will change sooner or later
but we are enjoying the temperate days -
And the llamas are luvin
it just as much.. ..
The weather is great & there is a lot of green grass since I opened up the
field down behind the cottage. They run like a bunch of little youngsters
when that gate gets opened in the morning.
AT this time of year we think of all of our friends and family and hope you all are enjoying these days as much as Lil and I are.
12/05/2011 - Monday
We are into December and so fast it will suddenly be Christmas time. What a great time to look towards enjoying friends and family .
We haven't experienced any
"real" December weather as yet, in fact today is in the high 50's and
off and on sun.
Tonight and tomorrow rain, and we look forward to it because we so drastically
need rain to fill our lakes back up.
Heard from our friends out
West and they are all expecting VERY COLD WEATHER this week - I can hardly
believe it - zero and below??
Take care of those new babies and give them all fresh hay for bedding.
We have let all of the
females into a pasture that they have never been into before. This field has
always been for all of our males, but since now we
only have the one male, Star Point Blank, we felt it was time that he shared
part of his tall grass. So the girls are enjoying a big field of grass so
long it touches their bellies. But not for long - they'll soon have it all
chomped down, and then it will be strictly hay for the remainder of the winter.
