KRM's FIBER
KRM's llama wool ready for spinning

THE FIBER FACTOR

When we began shearing llamas to keep them cool, Lillian’s past interest in wool began resurfacing, and we saw a need to be more concerned about fiber as we were breeding.

The fiber factor has put an entirely new twist on our breeding program sending us out West and North to look for females which would fill this need. This past Fall and Spring we are just starting to see the results of our efforts with a nice compact llama with good conformation and a high quality fiber and fine gauge to spin with.

We have begun carding all the wool we can get our hands on and spinning or Cookie & Lil working the fiber sending it out to be spun and trying to learn more about this exciting product so we can begin to make articles of clothing out of it.

Lil & Cookie processing wool

At the present time we have several 100% llama wool products which are hand knit to offer to the public. In the future we will be doing a mix of llama & sheep's wool products as well.

All the knit llama wool articles will be from KRM llamas unless other wise stated. This is a cottage industry product with everything being done by hand. The finished product goes through many steps. The process is long and time consuming but very rewarding. First our llamas are blown and brushed out, then washed. This is followed by Dave shearing them . I pick all the wool clean then card it. Then I send it to a spinner who spins it by hand. It then returns to me so I can knit it.
