Kent Rock Meadows NEWS !!

12/24/05  Merry Christmas everyone!!!!
Our new girl born Thanksgiving week
, Peruvian Pearl Kiss is now out with the big girls and enjoying the friendship of both Blueberry Peach Pie and Treasure of Chennault - her two young girlfriends.
We have completed our Fall breedings and next Fall should be exciting as we have employed four of our sires this time -
Brunate, Suti, Papa Kilo & Snows of Kilimanjaro.      Lookin' forward to those babies!!!!
It has been a wonderful year and it is difficult to believe it is coming to a close. But it is - So enjoy the Holidays and let's get ready for another exciting year of Llamas.

To all of our friends thank you for the friendship and we look forward to seeing you all next year.....

11/26/05  - Thanksgiving has come and gone and it was not only great with the weather (65 degrees & sunny) but it was also great being together as a family - Karen, Jeff and the two youngsters, Alex & baby, Anna were here for the holiday.

The day before Thanksgiving we were also blessed with a beautiful new Peruvian female cria. Tamara had her baby about 9:45 AM. She is very correct, great fiber, weighed 27.5 lbs and ready for the world. Although in the pictures below she appears snow white, she really is a pearl color. Apparently Brunate has worked his color magic again somehow sneaking in the silver appearance that all of his cria possess.

2 days old

11/17/05  - Good Morning!! It's about 7AM and I have been up for a while watching the beautiful sun- up take place. Yesterday at this time it was about 60 degrees, and we were expecting a big change in the weather. Well it sure took place - lots of wind yesterday and the temps started going down. This morning it is about 31 - 34 degrees. November weather is finally here.
This coming week we are expecting
Peruvian Tamara to have her baby. She really has slowed down this past week and looks like she is carrying something special - Another fine Peruvian out of Peruvian Brunate. Her last youngster - Peruvian Cream is really something and has gotten so tall this past summer - Since the passing of his Sire, Profiteer, we are so glad we have him here at the ranch. All of Profiteer's offspring have gone to new homes, but now Cream will stay with us. He looks like he will be as tall as his father or possibly taller, and has the wonderful disposition of both of his parents.

11/10/05  - Things will never quite be the same here at our ranch.

Today Peruvian Profiteer passed away.
Out of all of our males which we have ever had or still do have,
Profiteer stands  alone. Lil has always said that he definitely was a Thoreau llama - meaning he definitely marched to the beat of a different drummer. He had his own way of doing everything, carrying through to the way in which he presented himself at each show. There was no hurrying Profiteer -- even in the show ring - he took his own sweet time and actually Lil had to adjust her show style to Profiteer's. But it worked, as he consistently placed in the top first or second place in all of his shows. Profiteer's last year was one of struggling health problems, but it took nothing away from his overall presence. During the day when all of the other males would perform their snorting and posturing you could only expect that Profiteer would be at the top of the gravel pile looking out over all, snorting and making one and all aware that he was indeed the King Of The Ranch.
As a one month old cria,
Profiteer picked us out of the crowd in the crowded arena at the Celebrity Sale. As he entered the ring with his Mom, he tore around the entire arena passing everyone by & screeching to a halt immediately in front of Lil and I, staring directly into our eyes and then tearing off again to accompany his Mom as they exited. At that moment both Lil and I knew he was for us, and the rest is history, We loved him and miss him.

10/28/05  - This weekend is the REAL  beginning of Fall. We get to set the clocks back, and darkness will start early at night.

Shows are over - our two big girls did well at their last two shows. KRM Diamond Lil was Grand Champion at the Georgia National Fair, and HCLR Truffles was Grand Champion at SAFF. We are proud of them.
This week we had to turn the heat on in the house, someplaces real close around here had a frost night before last.
Next month Lil and I will begin our Fall breeding schedule. We have some great expectations of new pairings. One of them -
Kobra's Papa Kilo & Argentine Isabella is something we have been looking forward to since they both came her as youngsters.

10/12/05  - Winding down in the '05 Show season, and now it's time to get to all of the chores that it was too hot to do in the summer. I've got some rewiring work to do in the Female Barn.... and some water line re-runs in the Male Barn.... and some fence work.... and got to get the winter hay delivered and stored.... poop cleanup in the pastures.... spread some rye seed for the winter.... I think that's plenty to keep me busy for the winter. I'm sure there will be more - Don't you think?

Back to the good stuff - the youngsters are growing & healthy,
Kilo has turned two and is rarin' to get breeding and invites one & all to bring him some good looking females.
We expect
Altanero to grow with leaps & bounds in the next 3-4 months and he will be ready for breeding too by Spring time.  Both have placed well in their Fall shows,

   Kobra's Papa Kilo

If you want to add some bone and great silky fiber to your herd these are the males to do that - 100% Argentine males.

Argentine Altanero

09/05/05  - I feel it.......... the seasons are changing.
This morning I sat out on the front porch watching the young boys in their pasture, about 6:30 AM & the sun was just rising. It was about 62 degrees. What a change!  We can all feel the September coolness arriving.

09/03/05  - We all are very familiar with the horrific Hurricane Katrina pictures that have been shown on the news concerning New Orleans & the Gulf Coast. One of our own llama families has been affected by this tragedy - Keith & Patti Wattigney  and their families.

08/21/05   I have to share these pictures from the past three days.
FIRST - two nights ago- from our back porch, a
SPECTACULAR  GEORGIA SUNSET..

SECOND - The next morning at 6:30 AM from the back porch again but this time - it is just beginning to get daylight, AND the full moon is still out there unusually bright..

and THIRD - today at 1:30 PM - our thermometer on the front of the Male barn. Look at that!! closing in on 100 degrees. It has been above 90 degrees here for around 10 days or so. Waiting for a break!!

08/10/05  -  We have had another day or so of heavy rain - about 2" plus, and all of the fields continue to provide lush feed for our llamas. Sun is shining today and the heat starts early. Down at the front barn the young boys are out eating and Argentine Altanero is doing one of his favorite things. Cooling his toes in the puddles along the lane.

He just loves it!!!!

07/21/05  -  Back in April we were pleasantly surprised to have Suti's first off spring delivered. And it was pretty special. On  April 3rd(?) we were blessed with a pure white female out of Peruvian Lumenience and the following day we were blessed with a pure black male out of our ROM champion, Paloma's Isabella. I mention this because back then we were too busy it seems to have put it here in the news. click here for pictures
Back to the present ----  July is here and you know what that means - 92- 97 degrees every day and every night thunderboomers. The llamas are all pretty much into their regime of spending much of the mid day resting in front of the fans.
Our babies continue to grow, and the three weanlings are into their routine too, without Moms. We have just completed our second shearing schedule. Amazing how the llamas really look forward to getting what little fiber they have on - taken off. They just stand and as soon as I start they give A BIG SIGH OF RELIEF.

06/13/05  -  We're havin' FUN !!
This week is weaning week. Our babies from the Fall are in for a shock, this week they get weaned. But first we have to move some things around - The
Peruvian Commodore who has the run of the farm, meaning he gets to go anywhere except in with the big females has really been branching out the last few weeks. First he was sort of hinting that he wanted a new friend in with him. Now remember this is the "Commodore" who has never been stalled with any other males, because he is so aggressive. Anyway, he and Flash, one of our young males, have recently become great friends through the fence. Lil and I have been watching this and decided What the Heck -  and they have been stalled together off and on the last few weeks and they are the best of Buddies. Figure that grouping out? And now this last week Commodore has wandered down to the Girl's barn end where we had been keeping Papa Kilo, Penuche & Flash, and decided he wants to stay there, where he can be next to all of the beauties. (We just this week graduated Papa Kilo, Penuche & Flash up to the BIG BOYS BARN). Well back to the weaning plans-- we now have to break the news to the Commodore that he has to leave his harem of beauties. He's not going to like that!!
Another day in Llama Paradise.

06/04/05  -  We have just gone thru a solid week of intense rain. And the soggy ground is back.
Lil and I are working on details in the new house, I'm tiling the main room, and Lil is touching up some of the paint around some doors & windows. We are anxiously awaiting the installation of our new kitchen. If it hadn't been for the rain, I guess it all would have been done but the wet weather set us back.
All of the new babies are growing, and this looks like one of our best crops of show babies AND
Suti has done what we had hoped for - two beautiful offspring.

05/09/05  -  Warm weather came sliding in this week end. We are speeding up our shearing schedule.

SHEAR THOSE LLAMAS!!!!!

05/05/05  -  Cinco de Mayo -- and it's my grandson Alex's birthday - Happy Birthday Alex!!!!
Wow, it has been forever since I have had time to update the news around here.. We have been so busy with getting things done in the new house (almost time to move in.), going to shows and taking care of all of our beautiful llamas.
We have had some great babies, click here to see them
We have shown in several states this Spring starting with Fort Worth, then Florida & SSLA Spring Show, and ending with Celebrity in Oklahoma.
And now we are into the Shearing schedule. Thankfully Spring has been quite cool this year, giving a little larger window with which we have to shear.
We have a couple of other new additions -
Argentine Altanero, our Argentine Pecos son has moved in and taken his place with the other young boys.
And we have a new Peruvian female,
Peruvian Cleopatra

She is a brand new Peruvian blood line for us and we are excited to see what develops. She is coal black and has fit in quite well. It is quite amusing to watch her in the field, since she has joined up with Diamond Lil, and Truffles, both of whom look a lot like her and are very strong girls. They spend all day together either lying around or wrestling in the big field.

02/23/05  -  The new girl is doing fine - She is at 28 lbs this morning, and looking better every day. Her Gray coloring is looking better  & better. We have her & Mom in an enclosed pen outside in the midst of the female pasture so all can congregate around and check out the new addition. And the last two days have been great for that we have had sun & 72 degrees. But all is about to end as far as nice weather - about to get back to a couple of days of rain - Not what we need, since all of the mud is just drying out. Oh Welllll !
Oh by the way Lil named the new baby -
Blueberry Peach Pie..  All of Sweet Mystery's offspring have been "Peaches" of some sort..

02/19/05  -  A great day yesterday - a new female cria born here. Lil and I had to go out around noon time to get a few items taken care of in the village. We knew Sweet Mystery was about four days over her due date, but figured given her "look" we would be all right for a few hours. As it turned out we timed it all just about right, because as we pulled in the gate we saw all of the females gathered in one small portion of the pasture out back. Lil jumped out and headed over tho the gathering-  About 1/2 way there, she hollered back - Bring the birthing kit!!!!
Sweet Mystery soon delivered a beautiful SILVER female - That is Brunate's first Gray offspring - He has produced such a wide array of colors in his breedings.
No problems - 23 lbs - up and soon nursing very strongly.
Today
Mystery and baby are out in a pen enjoying the sunshine and all of the other females are gathered around gazing in and giving encouragement and congratulations to the new Mom.

02/01/05  -  It's February ?!  Whew - a whole lot happening this year..
Our house is moving quickly along - the metal roof is on as of today and the work now begins inside - Lil & I can't wait to get moved in & have some friends over..

Our new babies are looking very promising -
KRM Topazz Jazz(m) - KRM Topazz Jazz

KRM Peruvian Creme(m) - KRM Creme

Treasure of Chennault(f) - Treasure of Chennault

We have attended our first ALSA show in January - and
Diamond Lil gained her Recognition of Merit ( ROM).

We purchased a new male - TCB In A Flash -  to offer another dimension to our breeding pool,  We call him FLASH !!

TCB IN A FLASH

TCB IN A FLASH

He is a young male out of Newevo x Silk & Satin. At this young age he looks like he is very promising, both for the show ring and for future breeding.

01/01/05  -  Happy New Year 2005 !!  It's a new year, and around here all is well, in fact quite well. The weather is incredible for January - in the mid 60's today and sunshine. Our new babies are doing great. We have a couple of new breedings taken care of with Suti, and we are looking forward to a couple of full Peruvian offspring.

Lil & Suti earlier in the Fall

Our new home is progressing - in the midst of wiring & plumbing, and the two new porches are being framed this next week.
It seems to be time to do some planning for the new year's activities - what shows we will be going to, preparation for the SSLA Spring Show, which Lil and I are supervising again, and whatever else comes our way.
